Is there another definition that makes this bad? Because this seems to me the kind of thing you do if you're not singlemindedly focussed on getting other people to agree with you. Steelmanning is a variation of this.

True. I'm probably giving Jesse the benefit of the doubt that it was simply a reaction rather than an attempt to cultivate likes/retweets. But it is true that happened.

The common factor in this is people liking and retweeting badly worded or superficial content. Perhaps we're blaming the wrong people :-)
