Great to see this finally hitting medical journals. That’s been a closed door to our field for decades, and repeated attempts this past year have been met w ‘no thanks’. Kudos to @trishgreenhalgh @jljcolorado @DFisman @Rschooley @zeynephttps://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1382828513393266690 …

"Ten scientific reasons in support of airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2." New paper in @TheLancet by @trishgreenhalgh, @kprather88, @Rschooley, @jljcolorado, @dfisman and me! We argue the case that it's not just that SARS-CoV-2 is airborne, but that it's predominantly airborne. pic.twitter.com/eKf4jT9PeJ

Thank you! Interestingly, I've ended up reading a huge amount of medical "droplet" literature and, wow, I cannot wait for someone to write the history of science book on that. It's looks a lot like tradition rather than evidence, and I kept thinking I must be missing something?

Also seems to go along with various empirically unsupported conflations (like aerosol=high R0; aerosol=only long distance; aerosol=only N95s everything else is not even partially effective) that made the discussion really hard? The sociology/epistemology of it all is fascinating.

I think you're the right person to write that history...

No, no! Actually no. Not writing a history of science book, no. (I will write a book, eventually, that may mention it but there is a history to trace there that will be much better done by someone who does real archival work. All the hard work historians do and I love reading!).

But there is clearly an amazing book there, just on that, with all the twists and turns of science and paradigms and traditions and personalities.

I’m trying to encourage an acquaintance to pull that book together. I agree, it’s fascinating. I suspect that the mockery of “miasma” really contributed to this wrong turn.
