That steak account is spouting caricatures of science more suitable for, dunno, second graders? How on earth is it retweeted into my timeline? Their social media game may be sharp, but it's the kind of smart-sounding stupidity that, studies prove, kills brain cells directly.

Do you agree that scientific facts have a short half life - whether it be 10, 20 or 50 yrs? That 90% of the knowledge/"settled science" humanity had in 1900 is now outdated? And the same will happen of the knowledge/"settled science" we have today will be outdated in 100 yrs?

But what exactly does outdated mean here? Whether the model makes accurate predictions determines its utility. Some models are shown to be deeply inconsistent with reality, while others, like Newtonian mechanics, are still valid in specific regimes (e.g. low mass, low velocity)

But on a philo level it's fair to distinguish science as a process for approaching the truth vs. some absolute arbiter of it. Of course in practice we can't function if we act as if we know nothing with certainty, but it's also true that widely held assumptions can be overturned.
