If anyone is going to write about the latest Israel/variant study, I suggest noting: this informative thread by one of the co-authors; that it's actually excellent news; and that vaccine resistance is NOT analogous to antibiotic resistance (which seems to be a common conflation).https://twitter.com/SternLab/status/1380922920734711811 …

What on earth? Again, we should keep an eye on variants especially in those (yeay, rare!) vaccine breakthrough cases (which are known from the trials) but THAT STUDY WAS EXCELLENT NEWS OVERALL ON THAT ASPECT. These headlines are wildly misleading. h/t

Another source (still needs to be reviewed). Best to keep tabs on VOC, suppress and eliminate.https://twitter.com/chrischirp/status/1381276863553806337?s=19 …

I think if you look at what scientists are saying about zeyneps commentary you start to understand why journalists aren’t good sources for any serious information or thinking on any of this.

This comment is just curiosity, not meant to spread worry: in unvaccinated populations where both exist, the UK variant dominates the Brazilian and SA variants because of its easier transmission. Might the opposite be true in partially-vaccinated populations?

I've seen this one all over my feed and Google alerts recently. Yes, you can still get COVID after getting the vaccine. The fact that this is considered headline news is disheartening.pic.twitter.com/OrRh3BiuCh

Yup. So glad you’re amplifying this.
@sailorrooscout pointed this out a couple days ago and I felt so much better. These people weren’t even technically ‘fully vaccinated”. Thank goodness for your voices.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Trying to find this in the data or thread, though as they report 8 cases in 7+ days post 2nd dose, but no data post 14 days, so where is the 'zero cases beyond 14 days' element? And would imply a window 7-14 days post 2nd (and of course earlier).

A co-author is on Twitter explaining it it, folks! Come on. FWIW, the study itself made me feel *better* about both the mRNA vaccines and the threat of B.1.351 (which we should track).
