Most variant stories focus on the UK strain, but seems like the Brazil #P1 variant is more concerning. Including bc from what I can find there’s little evidence on whether/how well the vaccines work against it. In other words, I don't think we can rule it out for P1, but in my view, we can definitely rule in B.1.1.7 as a very thorny threat. More research into P1 is well-advised but unchecked spread amidst hospital collapse isn't some side player in Brazil's (horrific) numbers.

Very helpful as always to hear your views. Thank you. Is P1 prevalent enough yet anywhere else such that we could start getting an understanding independent of Brazil’s unique other problems? And if not, is that a good sign that it’s being relatively contained?
