I have come to the same conclusion. Over and over again that particular "expert" (who is actually not well-credentialed in terms of infectious disease) has referred to variants as completely "escaping" immunity. Antibody neutralization is not synonymous with functional immunity.

Disappointing. It’s good to promote continued NPI while we give vaccination a chance to get this under control, but this seems overly fear-inducing and not evidence-based.

Yeah. I just kinda joked on an another thread, I'm very much "Ms. Red Team for Tail Risk" and they lost me. I have far more realistic terrible scenarios such as "we have effective vaccines and rich countries get most of them while everyone else suffers greatly for another year+".

Dr Ranney is a great ER doc. But let’s be clear: she is an ER doc. Not an immunologist or a virologist. This is not her expertise. This is why getting info on variants from cable news is a bad idea.

This is why I can’t watch the news anymore, between the death ticker, the constant negativity, it is just noise to me at this point. I understand it gets them viewers and panic sells but it is extrmely unprodictive and disingenous.
