A vast oversimplification that should be removed. This is a physician but I hope he takes down this post. https://twitter.com/FaheemYounus/status/1377658778166861826 …

This is an ongoing problem. Pretty much everyone I know—not in these field directly—is some degree of misinformed right now.

. People—especially blue checkmark physicians with 200K followers— should at very least take time to read up & hone their messages for accuracy before blasting (inadvertently?) deceptive alarmist trash

It’s widespread. I’ve had what this kind of partial immune escape means and doesn’t mean explained to me early on, and I’ve read enough by now. It seems everyone in the field knows why this is misleading but few will push back openly on social media. Very dysfunctional dynamic.

Utterly dysfunctional for sure and now people are afraid to get JNJ.. a non zero number people will end up hospitalized or dead because of “viral” propagation of misleading / inaccurate info like this. Such false messages also violate 1st rule of medicine: “Do No Harm”

Also sets stage for bad policy and needless fear—instead of the very real problems we have. This mismessage is widespread, though, from people with seemingly excellent credentials. I’m baffled and not sure what to do.

Totally! Even NYTimes has recent article that misleadingly lumps expected vaccine efficacy by type of delivery system (mRNA v Adenovirus) .. But JNJ, Moderna and Pfizer all use locked “2P” Spike. And in fact, unlike AZ, JNJ performed well in S Africa vs B.1.351!

In science, if you ACTUALLY know how to look at data & filter out the noise.. you can and should challenge a PhD or MD who has a dumb / wrong take. Degrees do not confer infallibility. Arguments should be based in reason and data, not gatekeeping.
