Yes. Photograph choice matters. Beaches, parks, the photogenic outdoor portion of an event that was part of a multi-day process with many unmasked *indoors* meetings and a reception... This isn't how we inform people.https://twitter.com/70sBachchan/status/1366743396925272065 …

I'm beginning to wonder if I'm being personally-trolled here, as an experiment. This is by CNN, bringing you the important news about the pandemic with visuals that highlight the acute problem. h/t

For those wondering how incorrect guidelines still block better pandemic mitigations: Despite Dr. Wen's heroic attempt here to divert, the incorrect description (basically copied from guidelines) helps drive the beach panic. If that were true, yeah indoor/outdoor would be same.pic.twitter.com/NAp4dVtgIV

It occurs to me that this type of approach is not just bad science, but a type of deflection: Lets go after common folk in public places & avoid dealing with closed business areas where owners are making money & too often don't give a hoot about the risks to their staff

Ideally the police would be asking them to space out a bit, rather than having them clear out (and then congregate indoors).

Police did ask.. Several times.. They started to throw stuff at the police..

The way police went in was not good. But this were not just people in a park. This was a dense crowd of partying people without precautions. At least this were the sequences I saw here in the news. Not all is as it looks on a single picture, either.

In Berlin, Germany the same: all (!) Shops open in 3rd wave, requiring rapid tests on paper only (but often nobody checking), but police very busy hunting youths spending their evening in parks, even with helicopters

The park is big, but they were concentrated in one small part of it, for an impromptu festival. Whether or not it was Covid-risky enough to be banned is one thing, and maybe not, but these narratives that it was just people going to/hanging out in a park are wrong. Parks are open

I have been following you for many months and appreciate your level-headed analysis of this sanitary crisis. Is there any situation where being outdoors, in big numbers, in very closed contact, singing, shouting, drinking, maskless could lead to spreading?

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey is in a spat with Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego over closing parking lots at city parks this Easter. I disagree with Ducey’s use of power to force cities to open indoor dining but he’s right on this issue.https://www.phoenix.gov/newsroom/parks-and-recreation/1838 …

Disclaimer - The above tweet is in no way an endorsement of Doug Ducey who has eased restrictions too early and at various times prohibited local governments from enforcing mask mandates or indoor capacity restrictions.
