No, no, no. The right to vote is a *right*; thus a normative question, not one to be analyzed on its presumed partisan effects (besides, social scientists cannot really predict these effects). Please, let's focus on if the law makes it harder to vote, and who the impact falls on.https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/1378336504423051270 …

Also, I'll repeat: social science can analyze what happened in the past, but predicting *future* turnout effects in response to a complex new set of rules really isn't something that can be done with precision and confidence. This is reality, not a criticism of our research.

THANK YOU. We've already litigated this. Love the NY poll workers but c'mon ... NY was one the last states to finish counting votes.

NYS poll worker here! NYS’ voting laws have been some of the worst in the nation, but have taken big strides forward in the last two years. We should have same day registration and no fault absentees by election 2022, and implemented AVR by 2023.

If it's "not as contested", why has NYC had so many mayors who were NOT Democrats??

NY's problem isn't just voting rights, it's also combined with very restrictive ballot access, so it's a double whammy. I've lived & voted in a number of US states, but no state is as bad/corrupt at elections as NY, in my experience.

We are paying attention. Activists across NY worked hard to flip the state senate in 2018 and have been making real progress on voting laws, but much remains to be done.
