Look, there are elements of this I plan to carry forward. Zooms with friends from far away, not spending most of my time in an office, telehealth for routine matters. But I also want to party.

Yeah, I mean, there are aspects I **have** enjoyed and things I'll now prefer, though the points of enjoyment are overwhelmingly tied to being being v lucky to be able to work from home, not had much financial impact etc. But I also can't wait to see people again.

That's my take. I see zero evidence of it - as opposed to some people saying, wow, I really prefer working from home, etc. I think there's a lot of people wanting to think that there are some other weird people keeping them locked down, as opposed to covid locking them down.

Maybe. I'm so traumatized by this year that I get upset, maybe irrationally so, by suggestions that any of it is permanent. And I follow all public health guidance on masks but probably hate them as much as the most egregious anti-maskers so I hope they don't become a norm.

I mean, I've found the last year a downer too? And I get what you're saying. It is traumatic. It is horrible. Wish it'd never happened and wish it would end. All of it. But I do sense that some people have found a need to conjure these people up because it's hard to be mad ...

I think this is right but also kind of who cares? Putting "mask up" in your twitter handle has become a tribal thing for a lot of people. And some have become bonded with them before they are an assurance of safety. The latter point is understandable. But I truly ...

2/ doubt it last long at all after case numbers move to negligible levels and if some people keep needing it as a security blanket because the last year has been so horrifying and awful I genuinely mean whatever makes them feel better. I really seems like a non problem.

I'm thinking I'll keep a box of masks around for future flu seasons. This year our "home stay with masks" just about killed the flu epidemic. I hate getting the flu.

Yeah, masks like that in public is pretty normal in most of Asia! That said, I live in a highly-educated area and it's only recently that Facebook/Nextdoor fights over the fleeting second that an unmasked runner passed someone by have somewhat (but not completely) subsided.
