Look, there are elements of this I plan to carry forward. Zooms with friends from far away, not spending most of my time in an office, telehealth for routine matters. But I also want to party.

Yeah, I mean, there are aspects I **have** enjoyed and things I'll now prefer, though the points of enjoyment are overwhelmingly tied to being being v lucky to be able to work from home, not had much financial impact etc. But I also can't wait to see people again.

That's my take. I see zero evidence of it - as opposed to some people saying, wow, I really prefer working from home, etc. I think there's a lot of people wanting to think that there are some other weird people keeping them locked down, as opposed to covid locking them down.

Maybe. I'm so traumatized by this year that I get upset, maybe irrationally so, by suggestions that any of it is permanent. And I follow all public health guidance on masks but probably hate them as much as the most egregious anti-maskers so I hope they don't become a norm.

I mean, I've found the last year a downer too? And I get what you're saying. It is traumatic. It is horrible. Wish it'd never happened and wish it would end. All of it. But I do sense that some people have found a need to conjure these people up because it's hard to be mad ...

i confess it is unclear to me what “lockdown forever” even means, given that the entire united states has been in some form of “opened” or another since last summer.

that’s a good point. i think this might be one of those things where the fact that i live in the provinces colors my view somewhat

Yeah, right now "lockdown" in the US essentially means mask mandates and schools fully or quasi-closed (for some kids it's been a year and counting!), and both are fairly significant in their visibility and impacts. We are not doing it like Europe at all.

FWIW, I regularly see friends on social media talk about going in-person to a grocery store for the first time in X months. As a society, our lockdown was never complete, and only lasted a few months at most. But *many* individuals have self-isolated to extraordinary degrees.

Some of those people won’t go back to stores as long as online delivery works. The pandemic got us cooking more so we felt the risk was worth picking our ingredients. We feel healthier with fewer restaurant meals so eating out less is another likely permanent change for us.
