Delayed 2nd dose was a good idea-squashed too quickly. Historic crisis demanded less rigidity. Just latest example.

Agree w Zeynep that the messaging got poisoned; this alternative strategy was presented as deviating from trials, despite many reasons why ok, and then message taken by public was this is not following best science.

I also think timing influenced this. In mid Dec when Zeynep/Mina piece came out (1st I know of), no variants of concern at that time and expectation of millions vaccinated in Dec/Jan (overpromised, of course). This influenced the “let’s just stay the course” position, IMO

It has been for months... For weeks, my own clinic stopped giving out any first doses on and off (there were none allocated) while continuing to direct almost all available doses to booster. It still is in lots of places. Numbers are super clear (and will be analyzed eventually).
