Thread is pointing out that, apparently, NYC is planning to end remote work but won’t require masks indoors if people can be six feet apart. It’s been a year and the key role of aerosols hasn’t sunk in. Among the biggest pandemic failures.https://twitter.com/heyitsnoah/status/1374713063891427335 …

I also just discovered that @nycHealthy (DOH) website does not say one word about aerosols, ventilation, filtration — neither on the main website nor any links therein. They’ve also never tweeted it. In fact, their website still says it spreads by droplets. It’s been a year. pic.twitter.com/dDA7M0wLib

This is exactly the cost of the failure to explain what airborne transmission means, and providing rigid rules instead. So many examples. (Requiring masks outdoor even for fleeting encounters under six feet, but not requiring them indoors if separated by six feet, for example).https://twitter.com/mini_007/status/1374798695934390272 …

As NYC is increasing in-person learning for public school, most of the class size is getting bigger, like changing from 12 to 24 kids. I know a classroom moved the kids from their classroom with windows to a windowless cafeteria, so they could keep 6 feet apart... 🤦

Maybe this is a nuance, but is there a meaningful difference in aerosol spread and being "fully" airborne? Seeing some folks argue that the droplets are bigger issue, because otherwise the virus would've spread faster than it did.

Wait, do you no longer think that respiratory droplets are the primary mode of transmission. Even if aerosol transmission is clearly possible, aren't droplets still a/the main concern?

Aerosols are driving Covid-19 transmission. The evidence is incontrovertible. We found: --> almost 90% of within-room transmission by aerosol --> about 40% due to 'long range' aerosol (within-room, beyond 6 feet) Ventilation/Filtration matter. A lot. #HealthyBuildings pic.twitter.com/o6CX2uS051

Continues to be frustrating as a meteorologist; we always teach the necessary three categories to picture: 10 um aerosols (non-condensed stuff), 10-100 um cloud droplets (fog, COVID), and >100 um precipitation (drizzle and rain). As discussed long ago with @jljcolorado!

The CDC too—not quite as bad as NYC, but still saying that droplets, <6ft as the "most common" method, airborne only "sometimes". Also, not a word on this page about transmission being 20x more likely indoors https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/how-covid-spreads.html …pic.twitter.com/463Eyl0HIi

Shame on NY, taking advantage of weak CDC guidelines, this may be why @FrankPallone never received a reply to his letter, look at all the cost savings here. Do we not value the life of our citizens more than profits and corporate greed? Come on Frank!
