Fuming. I supported a US trial of AstraZeneca so it could undo the *unnecessary* damage to vaccine confidence from their botched initial rollout. Yesterday, I was cautious because, again, press release, no data. Turns out AZ is botching this rollout, too.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1374060809144438785 …

The level of irresponsibility on display here is unforgivable—especially since their vaccine seems fine! It's delivering in the real world, and the actual trial results are excellent! But they keep screwing around with confidence with their callous hubris.https://twitter.com/kakape/status/1374338061157421057 …

You know this is really what you call an unforced error, because the fact is, this is very likely a very good vaccine and this kind of thing does as you say do nothing, but really cast some doubt about the vaccines …"Show this thread9 replies 65 retweets 439 likesShow this thread -

If you’re so confident in the vaccine why are you blaming them for paper work instead of focusing your anger on the government that can’t see what you see?

It's not "paper work" to first botch the dosing, then merge trials in ways that made analyses difficult if not impossible, then not have enough elderly people in trials, then do a trial with all the right things and not wait 48 hours but release outdated results without noting.

It’s bad, but if our government is holding a life saving drug up over data that is unnecessary, seems like that should be the focus more than the company messing up the wasteful and unnecessary thing government requires.

You don't know what you don't know until you have a proper trial, though. "Turned out okay in hindsight" isn't enough. Look at what's happening in Europe. Vaccination, not vaccines, save lives and you can't play fast and loose with confidence—you'll fail the vaccination step.
