What happens when an academic's biennial "curses, I'm doing too much writing and my right shoulder/wrist is developing tendonitis, lemme switch everything including mouse to left" meets her "wait, I cut ulnar nerve and tendons on my left hand last year" moment? Details at 11.

I have a vertical trackball on the left, and I'm learning how to do well with it now with my mild issues—nothing that dramatic tbh. I'm managing. But without that second elective surgery, I'd really have lost left hand function to a much larger degree. I keep thinking about it.

the mouse wheel thing seems to be my bane, it's like a new form of Nintendo thumb

Long shot, but a lot of folks in my old office used those vertical, ergonomic mice. I have bad tennis elbow in my right arm and the positioning took noticeable stress off my forearm. Maybe being in a more comfortable position could improve your ability to control?

For some reason my links are bad but if you google “shark ergonomic mouse” you’ll see a ton of the type talking about.

you may want to consider POINTING WITH YOUR EYEShttp://interconnected.org/home/2021/03/12/pointer_control …

Thanks. I'm pretty functional as it is. My right side just needs a bit of rest, that's all, and my left hand is clunky... But great to see more adaptive tech for folks.

& hand surgery is appaz only v reluctantly performed bc hand is so delicate, intricate and complex. Used to read a column by a med student who once referred to the well-documented tendency (no pun inTENDed and so on!) of med students to be moved to tears by its magnificence.

It's incredible! When I went to the ER after the first one to get a popped stitch looked at, they wouldn't touch it even to rinse it with betadine till they paged down the hand surgeon on call. The second one was a tough decision; elective and time-limited in middle of pandemic.
