There needs to be immediate action in Michigan, first to improve this access/vaccination gap among older Black people, but also to quickly target other vulnerable groups. US is vaccinating at a rapid pace—yeay—which means we can shift some supply/effort to places at higher risk.

Once again: exponential threats make early action much more valuable. Need to act immediately to blunt the surge in Michigan, and also to work hard to reverse the inequality among the vaccinated. Even a week makes a huge difference. Meet surge with vaccination surge.

Florida has been having outdoor parties the whole time without predicted surges as a result.

Superspreader events are always indoors, but most people prefer to shame outdoor gatherings because they are easier to photograph.

I completely agree Michigan is a huge hotspot. They don't have P1 yet. They are in a lot of trouble. But in Florida those outdoor people eventually go in to bars, restaurants, hotels, stores and get those workers sick. Then fly home.pic.twitter.com/k9qTOQzgva

Then news article should show pictures of crowded bars, not beaches.

Open air party is not a big concern. Getting there may be more of the problem.

Or going to bars and restaurants. The photos are always of open air parties, but they are surely going in buildings to eat, sleep, use bathroom. Need those pix! Are they masking/ distancing? Doubt it.

Outdoors transmission is reportedly way less likely, if the variants are now dominant or at least relatively common, are they way more transmissible in outdoors settings than before? Or a bit more transmissible outdoors but still unlikely to be superspread?
