Maybe for some. And you definitely still need to get attention somehow. But it's the healthiest job I've ever had.

I do think there’s a salience bias here. Someone like Bill Bishop or Ben Thompson doesn’t feel the need to pick fights for attention, but because they don’t, you don’t see them so much and they’re not top of mind.

That’s exactly right. If you are attuned to the Twitter brouhaha, neither the long-tail nor Heather Cox Richardson is visible. (If anything is missing, it’s better discovery mechanisms independent of Twitter/Facebook but nothing algorithmic—that leads back to same place).

I think the same dynamic that means some people view “the media” purely through the pathologies of like 250 people on Twitter is carrying over perfectly to newsletters
