I could not more highly recommend Dr. Marr's sharp, clear exposition of COVID transmission mechanisms. Read the testimony and the whole thread (and wish more had, since last year when she tried so hard.) Her excellent, precise work will have huge impact going forward (one hopes).https://twitter.com/linseymarr/status/1370061943143301124 …

It’s amazing that a year in hygiene theatre and temp checks are common but high quality masks and ventilation are not. Imagine how different things would have been if this information was accepted and acted upon in the beginning.

In a nation like the USA that cares far more about optics than actually accomplishing anything, theatre is exactly what to expect.

It sounds like we need to cast aside the conventional wisdom of endlessly recirculating indoor air in a sealed box for energy efficiency and consider only congregating where smoking would be allowed (e.g. outside). "6 feet" was so thoroughly drilled into people, though.

It’s seems silly to make essential workers wear extremely uncomfortable respirators after everyone of them has finally had the chance to be vaccinated after working without them the entire pandemic. They’re finally protected, but now they are forced to be extremely uncomfortable!

A couple of things still puzzle me, regarding the hypothesis that aerosol/airborne transmission dominates. Why is the attack rate within households not much higher? Why is the R0 not much closer to that of measles, as opposed to closer to influenza? 1/2

How would we truly ever know that fomites play an insignificant role? If the virus remains viable for order hour or more on materials that the most common face coverings are made of, many of us could be unwittingly keeping virus "colonies" close to our nose/mouth for long period

if it's transmitted mainly through aerosals, how do masks impede the spread?

        Masks filter aerosols.
