That tremor you just felt was the first severe wave of Fear of Missing Out on Vaccines. (I felt OK when vax was only being given for survival & safety reasons—it wasn’t a way to extend options, but equalize them. Adding socializing to the mix, makes not being vaxxed v emotional.)pic.twitter.com/OroqSP3VMQ

More on the CDC’s New Rules for Pandemic Parties, from @ChrisMegerian:https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2021-03-08/biden-covid-vaccines-guidelines …

What I mean by “equalize options” is: a frontline worker or person w severe health issues shouldn’t fear being hospitalized at work or while walking in a park for exercise, more than someone who can afford to work from home/is comparatively healthy.

I don't understand how CDC can say it's okay for vaccinated ppl to hang out unmasked w unvaxxed ppl (even if they're low risk) when we don't have transmission data yet? Seems like asking for trouble, even if unlikely?https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1368962245103878149 …

Yeay! CDC guidelines now say not just that vaccinated people can meet with other vaccinated people without masks, but that they can do so with other *unvaccinated* individuals, too, as long as they are low-risk (i.e. healthy adults or grandchildren!) and from one other household. pic.twitter.com/OQkwExzEGS

Where did you get the idea that we don't have data related to transmission? (Not challenging, wondering why you think so).

If there is vetted data showing people who've been vaccinated cannot transmit the virus, I would love to see it! cc @apoorva_nyc, whose reporting I've really appreciated on the matter. "Cannot transmit" at all, ever, as in total zero—no, but most of our vaccines don't meet that standard. There has been growing amount of evidence *for months* that, as expected, they do substantially reduce risk of transmission—to the degree that CDC justifiably felt comfortable.

So of course we *do* have transmission data, and not a small amount, and it looks quite encouraging, and has been for a long time. The risk, however small, probably will never be absolutely zeroed out—but that rarely happens with any of our vaccines.

If there's CDC-reviewed (or even vax developer provided) paper, plz let me know! I realize this is something you follow, & that researchers have been *collecting* this data for months, just haven't seen any paper weighing in w confidence. (CDC hedges here https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/more/fully-vaccinated-people.html …)

There are at least dozens of relevant papers at least at this point. So we do have data, but we will likely never have certainty that it's impossible. Will check for various compilations. Again, the claim is not that the risk is zero but that it is clearly substantially reduced.
