Yeay! CDC guidelines now say not just that vaccinated people can meet with other vaccinated people without masks, but that they can do so with other *unvaccinated* individuals, too, as long as they are low-risk (i.e. healthy adults or grandchildren!) and from one other household.pic.twitter.com/OQkwExzEGS

Don't know. My local school district is set to open except it's going to stay closed a whole day of the week for "deep cleaning". Makes no sense. Open with the right mitigations, fine. Waste tons of money and a whole day for hygiene theater? Not so fine.https://twitter.com/Robin_Quon/status/1368965239618830342 …

When is the @cdc going to proclaim that there is a low risk of getting COVID from touching stuff so American businesses can save $Billions by not engaging in evidence-free sanitation theater? https://www.thelancet.com/journals/laninf/article/PIIS1473-30992030678-2/fulltext …

Although I generally agree, but super practically, it’s hard to overstate *how gross children are* and how much of their bodily fluids end up all over surfaces. Schools and daycares might do well to keep hitting surfaces as well as ventilating much more.

Anyone who's raised kids knows the massive inevitable cold-interchange siege the first couple of weeks of kg/grade-1. They're little germ farms.

For which we have never closed schools a whole day!

The schools where I live close for a cleaning day whenever a big wave of seasonal illnesses hit. It’s the only way they get on top of flu and noro. Maybe schools with big cleaning staffs don’t need to, but it happens here every year.

It's true that once schools open again, we might get flu. And I'd be fine if one cleaning day was a response to a flu outbreak. But that's not a COVID specific concern and the problem is the kids have already missed so much school. If it's safe to open, they should stay open imo.

(Also with flu, the new ventilation awareness will probably help a lot—despite feet dragging from the medical establishment, it is now clear that flu is airborne and ventilation mitigations have pretty strong effect on the flu in some studies.)
