“It doesn’t really matter if it’s a restaurant, spin class, a gym, a choir practice — if you’re indoors with no masks, low or no ventilation, we know that’s higher risk”. Plus, the risk to people who work there, all day.https://twitter.com/j_g_allen/status/1368192549882654732 …

I'm quoted alongside @linseymarr in this piece by @RoniNYTimes, and Dr. Marr nailed key problem: --> Americans could not be expected to follow all the latest science, and so many simply rely on what is open or closed as an indicator of what is safe. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/05/health/coronavirus-restaurant-dining-masks.html?smid=tw-share …

In a vacuum of trusted public health information, ordinary people have had to become their own experts in order to figure out risk/reward. In that scenario most people default to what fits the narrative they want to be true and not necessarily what is true.

Supposed to be higher risk. But here in TX (and FL) we've been doing it for months with no worse outcome than states who restrict it. The cardio room at my gym is masks-off while on equipment. Low ventilation. About 10-25 people at any time huffing and puffing together. 👌

What's your opinion on the CT position (I live in CT and am not sure how worried to be...)? Is a gym safer than dining indoors? Should I try to go shopping earlier/later to avoid crowds? Basically, how much protection comes down to masks?

I was put in a poorly ventilated room w 11 other people, 4 of whom weren’t wearing a mask or wearing it below their noses. We were to fill out paperwork and wait for maybe 15 minutes FOR A COVID VACCINE. Then, we were to wait another 15 minutes for a reaction. Health Dept. 😳

I'm looking out my window at an empty house. 2 weeks ago 4 people lived there. Gyms? Open, so in they went. Restaurants? Open, so in they went. Mask in grocery? Not required (no enforcement) so not worn. Patriarch died Sunday. Son and his gf will follow soon. Aide unemployed.

It’s not easy to figure out whether an indoor space has low or no ventilation; right out of the box the alarm on my C02 monitor went off; I had no idea the ventilation in my own house was that bad. Until I know better, I’ll just assume that any indoor space is poorly ventilated.
