This. The more CDC waits, the less influence they have on how spring will unfold. (And messaging is like fighting exponentials: early framing/influence is crucial—can’t just pivot late and get the same bang).https://twitter.com/DrLeanaWen/status/1367870511552815104 …

Another challenge we face now is J&J. I think we should really be honest about the upsides *and* what we don't know yet. Shouldn't say they're all the same—that undermines the trust—but I feel confident saying.. absolutely take it if offered. Thread/piece.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1367301169052270595 …

zeynep tufekciVerified account @zeynepThis is false, but it is understandable if one's mental model of immunity is like a "sea wall" that gets washed over by a tsunami wave—like the Fukushima plant—and if we don't consider how *statistical power* effects trials. It doesn’t take much nuance to say that if you get the J&J vaccine, there is a 1 chance in 4 that it won’t protect you, but if you get the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine there is only a 1 chance in 20 that it won’t protect you. Not much nuance to add no vaccine = no protection.

Actually, I don't think what you just said is true at all, to be honest. I wrote why in my piece above (no paywall). They all protect you even if you get a mild case. They seem to be really good against death/hospitalization. Only J&J tested against variants.
