This. The more CDC waits, the less influence they have on how spring will unfold. (And messaging is like fighting exponentials: early framing/influence is crucial—can’t just pivot late and get the same bang).https://twitter.com/DrLeanaWen/status/1367870511552815104 …

The information environment does not, will not, allow a vacuum. Others will step up and provide guidance. Some better, some not so much. An ordinary person cannot/should not be in the business of hoping they pick the right experts. CDC should issue guidelines. They can update.

It doesn’t take much nuance to say that if you get the J&J vaccine, there is a 1 chance in 4 that it won’t protect you, but if you get the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine there is only a 1 chance in 20 that it won’t protect you. Not much nuance to add no vaccine = no protection.

Here people are waiting for the J&J vaccine and don't want the AstraZeneca vaccine, while they get an invite for the latter. But who says you can choose which one you receive...

Personally I’m keen for the J&J vaccine. It’s only one shot so it means getting back to normal more quickly for me.

Couldn’t disagree more. You can hold these two ideas in your head and make a sound choice. Reporters are not as informed and incentivized to highlight differences/shortcomings. The public ends up misinformed as the diffs/shortcomings is all they hear.

I run a factory of uneducated but overinformed people and every one of them says they won’t take j&j because it’s only 70%.

Ooh yes exactly and one minor point that needs to also be made is prior to these two ridiculously good mRNA vaccines the J&J vaccine would be regarded as a very good vaccine.

I agree. If offered J&J, take it. But what about when you have a choice of vaccines? We need to be honest about pros/cons of each or medical professionals risk yet another loss of credibility just when we can’t afford it.

It would be very helpful if our vaccination authorities would tell J&J recipients they are entitled to a booster after 2 months when supplies should be very high.
