This. The more CDC waits, the less influence they have on how spring will unfold. (And messaging is like fighting exponentials: early framing/influence is crucial—can’t just pivot late and get the same bang).https://twitter.com/DrLeanaWen/status/1367870511552815104 …

BREAKING: CDC Director says that they are STILL not releasing guidance on what vaccinated people can do. I understand being careful, but the longer they wait, the more people will take matters into their own hands & render eventual CDC advice irrelevant. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/02/16/vaccinated-need-know-whats-safe-them-do/ …

Another challenge we face now is J&J. I think we should really be honest about the upsides *and* what we don't know yet. Shouldn't say they're all the same—that undermines the trust—but I feel confident saying.. absolutely take it if offered. Thread/piece.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1367301169052270595 …

This is false, but it is understandable if one's mental model of immunity is like a "sea wall" that gets washed over by a tsunami wave—like the Fukushima plant—and if we don't consider how *statistical power* effects trials. The information environment does not, will not, allow a vacuum. Others will step up and provide guidance. Some better, some not so much. An ordinary person cannot/should not be in the business of hoping they pick the right experts. CDC should issue guidelines. They can update.

The CDC has already proved to be irrelevant...this is just more fuel to that fire.

As fully vaccinated, I feel safe being around others also fully vaccinated without a mask. In all other instances, I mask up and practice social distancing. No indoor dining or crowds yet under any circumstances since I’m high risk.

I'm actually much more curious about combinations of vaccinated and unvaccinated people. Esp as a church leader. I have vaccinated people clammoring to 'return' and yet the leadership of the church (like me) are the ones more likely to remain unvaccinated for a time.

Most people I talk to support CDC guidance when it aligns with their existing beliefs and ignore it when it doesn't. And frankly that situation exists because of the CDC's own actions.

It's a tough call because making the call with limited data would make guidance seem arbitrary. Maybe that's ok. Maybe that's necessary. But imperfect either way.

If you're a vaccinated healthcare worker with a known ongoing high exposure risk due to COVID cases in your household, you still go to work and see patients, etc. Should someone visit vaccinated parents though? We have to be careful... nobody knows if they affect transmission.

One would have to weigh the risk of a) being infected b) transmitting that to a vaccinated parent c) them experiencing some sort of bad outcome VS choosing to not see your parents. Probably more likely they die from something else while you wait than a + b + c?
