It made me think a lot about how I talk about the epidemic publicly, and that sometimes my caution as a scientist may be understood differently than I mean it to be understood. And yes about the vaccines--those were a hit out of the park and turned out better than we dared hope.

Yeah - audience matters. Scientists (Not me - solid engineering side here) and engineers are both basically trained to be pedantic edge case maniacs. The answer is always going to be: "It depends". Certainty is rightly viewed with scepticism by peers. BUT audience matters a lot.
