Amazing piece by the remarkably prescient @zeynep, who keeps getting things right with Covid19 *way* before anyone else. Examples?
- masks
- ventilation
- safety of outdoors
- underselling vaccines
- risk compensation
... and more!
Highly recommended.https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/02/how-public-health-messaging-backfired/618147/ …

Agree it’s time to bet on vaccine reduction of transmission. Harder question is how far to go. I would relax exposure/travel quarantines & open up small gatherings of 100% vaccinated. Would you go farther?

We definitely need to start seeing information out there on what can be relaxed, opened up, etc. after vaccination. If grandparents after vaccination can't be visited by their grand-children, there is a major problem with messaging.

Yeah. I know of cases of elderly vaccinated people in care homes being denied visitation by their elderly vaccinated spouses. We need explicit guidelines from the CDC on all this—not good to tell a 90-year old vaccinated person to keep waiting (it is absolutely happening now).

Can't rely on people to find the right expert on social media, decide to trust them, convince others around them, feel comfortable and confident, and start doing their own risk assessment without some signposts and authoritative guidance.
