What is the science on air purifiers? Helpful or just a false sense of security? I know ventilation is best, but in winter time that can be tough to accomplish. I have a small office and run one when I am in here, but unsure if it is actually effective..

My understanding from
@linseymarr@jljcolorado and other experts on this is that regular HEPA filters are good, stay away from gimmicks and ionizers, try to buy/run at speed appropriate to size of space, and yes, of course, being able to crack open a window is excellent. - Show replies

Japan, which doesn't even test its population widely, has contained the spread of the virus much better than Europe & US. One of the reasons Is the right messaging. The Japanese Govt began telling the nation to ventilate as of early March, 2020!

@BBCRadio4#WATO They're still just arguing about QALYs, how much a life is worth, + perpetuating the myth that w/COVID it's a balance between health + economy. We're SO damn far off seeing health benefits of a 0-COVID strategy (which they'll still misconstrue as elimination).Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Yes, the ventilation has been overlooked. NHK has published informative videos in 2020. The lingering obsession of “deep cleaning”, “surface”, “indoor distance” among many ppl is frustrating. Class rooms, offices, etc all need to address this issue.

What do you have in mind when you say it will improve health post-pandemic? Less transmission of pathogens in general? Lower CO₂ levels? Less buildup of indoor air pollution from… office equipment, is that an issue? All of the above?

oh, gosh yes, indoor mask compliance was very high in Dallas (believe it or not), but we still saw a lot of spread - because... it's not predominantly droplet, it's airborne. Italy modernized it's hospitals ventilation during the pandemic, and it's reaped huge dividends.
