I’m in the fortunate minority who gets to work from home and I would absolutely not say my life is fine/better. even leaving aside that the macro situation is v depressing, not being able to have any semblance of a normal social life for a year has been super taxing/depressing.
People without kids or those who have large homes with nannies might feel this way.
I'm not sure that group would say it's a net positive, considering the many other restrictions on travel, eating out, seeing friends and family socially
I have teenagers and while I'm fairly certain they'll survive, it's been disastrous for their well-being. And, honestly, it's hard to see how anyone is better off given the effects this has had on every aspect of the economy and social/emotional life. Even 'safe' jobs may not be.
I’m in this group, and my opinion of the country and faith in its institutions is at an all-time low. Everything sucks even if I’m lucky enough to be housed and getting a paycheck.
I am in that cohort, and it was still the worst year of my 34 years on earth. The fact that I am personally OK has been absolutely swamped by the myriad other bad factors.
My husband is part of this group. This time has been good for him, in part because it gives him more time to work on his dissertation. OTOH, because he’s a cancer patient there’s that whole existential terror every time he has to leave the house. So...
