Well ... I think the Emergency analogy holds. Like Trump (but unlike Modi), Mrs Gandhi had no ideology that informed her authoritarianism. It was just about her power and image. Modi genuinely believes in Hindutva and isn’t invested in self-aggrandizement. 2/3

Yeah, the populism/politics connection is different than the skill of navigating authoritarian/limited/muddy information environments.
