Three, the Harvard credentials exist so it makes the credentialist wagon-circling look like People's Judea fighting Judea People's Front—he's certainly credentialed enough for the public, and plus, crucially the credential alignment/lack thereof isn't the source of the problem.

Finally, as you say, higher-status folks with similar record and no credentials are not similarly piled on which makes it all even less effective if anyone notices: makes the victim look sympathetic against the "you're beneath us" crowd. Better to focus on the real problem, imo.

I often see folks with expertise/credentials in one field making strong unfounded claims about *adjacent* fields, just close enough that they can talk the talk convincingly which makes it much harder for non-experts to correctly weight their opinions
