Folks like @NateSilver538 and @zeynep deserve blame for the inequities that are happening now.
They, along with other Center-Whites, fought against prioritizing Black and Brown people in vaccinations despite information showing how they are the hardest-hit by COVID.https://twitter.com/Theresa_Chapple/status/1356355534442659840 …

One of the key goals of the vaccine protocols was to address health disparities for marginalized people that result from centuries of enslaving and oppressing Black, Latino and Indigenous people. But the Center-Whites had to be themselves.https://twitter.com/NateSilver538/status/1340361755403366400 …

Nate SilverVerified account @NateSilver538I am sorry to be a broken record, but it is completely indefensible that ACIP presents data like this showing that age is a FAR bigger risk factor for dying of COVID than pre-existing conditions & yet puts them on the same tier for vaccine prioritization. https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/acip/meetings/downloads/slides-2020-11/COVID-04-Dooling.pdf … pic.twitter.com/nzOwim3hMlShow this thread1 reply 0 retweets 2 likesShow this thread -

Folks like Zeynep ignored this one important fact: That many Black folks don't live beyond age 65 to start. Which means that not vaccinating them while they are in working years is akin to condemning so many to death and debilitation.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1339256986785951746 …
RiShawn Biddle added,
zeynep tufekciVerified account @zeynepYes, states will have their own plans, and I guess we will do this badly in many places.
Everyone deserves the vaccine, but not everyone is at equal risk for death and severe disease. Age is such an overwhelming risk factor compared with everything else. https://twitter.com/CarloDallapicc1/status/1339255465549639684 …Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 2 likesShow this thread -

A vaccination plan focused solely on age in a White Supremacist nation is unacceptable. And we are seeing the consequences of that in lower vaccination rates for Black and Brown folks compared to Whites...

This is too serious for uninformed Twitter spats. Have you seen the data on how to take age into account exactly so it doesn't further victimize the vulnerable? Have you read what I actually wrote in the New York Times? https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/15/opinion/coronavirus-vaccine.html …pic.twitter.com/4SlnFAGpTW

If you look at history of such efforts, it's obvious that the original ACIP schema—changed by ACIP, not me—would have been quickly swamped by the privileged and yes, whiter, crowd and leave out elderly minorities who suffer at earlier ages.

If you go volunteer at a vaccination clinic—as I've been doing—you'll see the biggest issue isn't the age criteria, but that the rollout is crappy and people are unsupported. The elderly need transportation—especially the poorer, minority ones. They need support. Reminder calls.

If you *actually* look at the technical side of it—the frontend and the backend—you'll see how we've set up a system that only with digital chops or lots of relatives and a lot of free time can, maybe, navigate their way to an appointment. Guess who that is?

I can take cheap shots no Twitter, all day, too. Nothing easier. I'm sorry I've even tried to respond. I'm actually interested in doing something to get more people—especially vulnerable people many of whom are non-white—access to vaccines. Enjoy your Twitter quote-tweets.
