This unscientific claim is biased toward parents. Children have been demonstrated to be sources of transmission, who in turn will infect their parents and teachers. If we can't get adults to wear masks properly, we can expect that from children. Having children was your choice.

You know who's an even bigger source of transmission than children? Adults, dining in restaurants, with a childish lack of responsibility.

Yes, and I'm not advocating for reopening restaurants either. As @zeynep perfectly explains it, the problem is always closed quarters. When things are safe (massive vaccination, low spread, etc.), then we can reopen everything.

On behalf of the low income kids sitting at home in front of computers by themselves while their two parents go to work to put food on the table who are losing an education, you and anyone who thinks like you are cowards. If we can't protect our kids we have failed as a species.

You seem to be blaming me for the fact that the US has failed to protect its up and coming generation. How is this my fault and why would it make me a coward? I must be misunderstanding your message.

Zero covid is not a strategy. The avg teacher is 42. They are twice as likely to die in a car crash than die of covid. We have gotten to the point where we are willing to accept zero risk to open schools. We are without a doubt cowards and history will judge us as such.

The risk is more than dying. For every covid death, twenty people are hospitalized. Of those, 18 have permanently damaged their hearts and/or lungs. So, despite the menial restrictions in place which somewhat prevent spread, nearly ten million people face long term life issues.

From sources I've linked to above (including the CDC and EU CDC equivalent), children are just like smaller adults: they are just as susceptible to catching and transmitting covid. The only solution I imagine could work in small settings is required daily antibodies test.

Children ARE NOT like smaller adults for this pathogen. Could you take your unscientific claims elsewhere? We have enough misinformation floating around. Thanks.

First, thanks for jumping in, I really appreciate your work. Second, I'm making a shortcut in my statement, but the CDC website states that children are likely to have similar viral loads: https://twitter.com/TopherBR/status/1355287670805590019 …. Children are nonetheless less prone to bad illness.

Eli, the CDC says the following: "Recent evidence suggests that compared to adults, children likely have similar viral loads in their nasopharynx,7 similar secondary infections rates, and can spread the virus to others." (src: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/pediatric-hcp.html …). This was updated in Dec.

*symptomatic children* of which there are much much fewer. Children are absolutely not smaller adults when it comes to this pathogen. Please follow reliable experts like @apsmunro and @mugecevik.
