Wait what? Facebook "Oversight Board" is giving "embargoed" access of its *full* decisions to individual writers? Like a single person? Is that so? No. Not okay. (Not naming the person because it doesn't mean she did something wrong). But, no, no, no. We aren't their PR agents.

Ayden, what you're doing here, targeting a young scholar is so unfair. I honestly thought better of you.

She publishes a piece, it’s legitimate to criticize it. It’s not OK to paint criticism as “targeting young scholars.” I just avoided talking about the piece itself because that wasn’t my concern here.

She has opinions, other have opinions. That said, my focus was on how Facebook oversight board was appearing to be trying to play academics—including her—by offering narrow and selective access. We need some transparency to understand if that’s what happened—who was offered this?

I have myself tweeted in agreement with
@BostonJoan 's good points yesterday, and generally avoid speaking about the FOB, finding that it takes oxygen away from more worthy reform projects. But I dislike Ayden's intentions herehttps://twitter.com/Elibietti/status/1355542832895897601?s=20 …Elettra Bietti added,
Elettra Bietti @ElibiettiSeeing the FOB as propaganda is very a good diagnostic. The problem by the way is not that self-regulation is bad per se, it's that some of these academic efforts reinforce the libertarian playbook according to which there is no way out of exclusively private speech regulation https://twitter.com/BostonJoan/status/1355484485769441280 …Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
I can’t judge such things like intentions by a single tweet (by a person I don’t know!). And all I can say is that I would personally like to keep the focus on what Facebook is doing and not discuss the piece here, though people can do that separately.
