Wait what? Facebook "Oversight Board" is giving "embargoed" access of its *full* decisions to individual writers? Like a single person? Is that so? No. Not okay. (Not naming the person because it doesn't mean she did something wrong). But, no, no, no. We aren't their PR agents.

Yes. We already saw how access journalism ruined political reporting. As academics, the one thing we have is our independence. We should resist this *as a group*. I can easily pledge not to accept such embargoes unless I'm assured they're offered widely.https://twitter.com/mathewi/status/1355925587311915010 …

Something about the blog’s framing that treats it as an inherently legitimate legal institution a la SCOTUS feels off.
-
OTOH we live in a world where large numbers of people believe SCOTUS itself, among many other courts, has lost whatever inherent legitimacy it may have once had. Corporate policy-setting may be more relevant to people's lives - and, terrifyingly, more democratic - than FedCourts

Hmmmmm, it almost seems as if Facebook is hiding things.

It was never intended to be good PR. Anyone who's seen the stunts FB done the last decade knows these are just "pat on the back" moments to make an otherwise ignorant public think "Oh, Facebook r-e-a-l-l-y isn't that bad after all".
