The #sweetnlowmasktest is a cheap, simple, and intuitive way (smell sweet) to check mask fit. Based on NIOSH standard QLFT.
@KatherinePasem1 with #fixthemask checked it, too.

I think it's not supposed to be paywalled. Let me check.

Thank you for this great article. Q: From the list of EUA approved non-NIOSH KN95's that is linked, what do I do from there? There's no easy way to then find those brands. Many places just sell "KN95" with no info about manufacturer.
-
I'd only buy KN95 from a reputable local shop (we have them in a grocery store chain) OR a reputable online retailer like Costco (which, by the way, sells N95s). You don't need many. A multi-layer cloth mask or surgical mask with brace is good for most low-risk people/situations.

I have assorted masks N95, paper, cloth, all of which fog my glasses below freezing (unsafe, not to mention getting run over by the odd streetcar). Fit always a problem, big face. Re disinfection, I run them all through the UV unit that sterilizes my CPAP equipment.

What if the N95 has a exhalation valve (like in my profile pic)?
-
Typical exhalation valves do not protect others, however it's as simple as carefully putting a strong piece of tape over it. Just make sure there isn't any leakage

I have not found a single mask (especially KN95) that doesn’t leak air around my nose (no matter if I double mask, or tighten the elastic. Headband or ear loop). I genuinely don’t understand how to make this work, despite knowing the guidance.
-
One trick I use with my KN95 is to place an extra nose strip on the exterior for stronger hold (you can buy a separate pack of strips), then tape down around nose/under eyes with 3M medical tape. Gives a really good seal.
