These restrictions already existed with exception of South Africa. Trump moved to eliminate them less than 2 weeks ago. Required testing is new. Could be quarantine restrictions added. But these travel limits broadly existed.

And what happens to noncitizen US permanent residents?

Also wish US would provide exemptions to permanent residents who are stuck abroad. My father left the US last February (to take care of grandma in JP who had a stroke) leaving my mother alone here; he opted not to fly back as long as possible in pandemic...

Unfortunately, his green card was about to expire, so he decided to fly home - putting himself at risk. I am a permanent resident in JP, and they have made exemptions for us, whereas US has EXPLICITLY not made exemptions (at least as of 1/19).

Why would it matter for the virus if they are citizens or not?! Does it check your passport before it goes in your nose?

How were people visiting UK recently allowed back into the US without a two week quarantine??? That’s insane!! Now we have it in Michigan due to someone that returned from UK. Now high school contact sports are shut down due to this.
