More focus on *who* we are vaccinating, rather than just on the number. 👇https://twitter.com/sdbaral/status/1353419145925124096 …

I think there is such a focus on 100 million people being vaccinated right now. And if the motivation is the number--programs will generally vaccinate those easiest to access to achieve targets. If equity drives--we will ensure better alignment of coverage with disparities.

It is important not to forget the trade off of efficiency vs perfection. In the case it feels like we are forgetting that speed protects everyone.

Is there a good resource showing how much speed of administration matters (vs speed of production)? I haven't taken note of one. Michigan is not too far off from using weekly deliveries in 5 days, which means close to maxed out without more production (which hopefully comes!).

As we learn more about how much the vaccines stop transmission, the question of who to vaccinate might change too. Israel, for example, has started vaccinating 16-18shttps://www.timesofisrael.com/israel-expands-vaccination-campaign-to-teens-aged-16-18/ …

Well yeah. No force on earth can prevent that demographic from partying, traveling, and just being foolish in general. They're almost ideal disease-spreaders. If you make them unable to spread the disease, you might stop a lot of secondary infections.

I am really wondering this. We have had a lot of expiring doses here. But does that not matter? Maybe getting doses to vulnerable pops first is worth X amount of delay/waste in terms of overall mortality? Genuinely would like to better understand.

I saw this one earlier: vaccinate youth because the math says it's most efficient (if you treat humans as interchangeable, apply math designed for computer servers to them, and ignore previously established equity goals)https://www.bostonglobe.com/2021/01/11/opinion/vaccinate-youngest-first/ …

I am worried that in my state the logistical logjams and arguments around equitable distribution are slowing vaccination rate. With no friction of course I would prefer perfectly equitable delivery, but is there any math out there on an inflection point between speed and equity?
