Controversial Take
The morbidity and mortality benefits associated with #COVID19 vaccination will be more directly associated with who rather than how many people are vaccinated.
Aligning coverage with risks is not just more equitable, it is critical to vaccine effectiveness.

I think there is such a focus on 100 million people being vaccinated right now. And if the motivation is the number--programs will generally vaccinate those easiest to access to achieve targets. If equity drives--we will ensure better alignment of coverage with disparities.

If you had to choose one, what’s more important for reducing morbidity and mortality: vaccinating by age or equity?

I thought hot takes, like nicknames could only be designated by others.

I assume modelling shows that the strategy of starting with the oldest first beats vaccinating the fastest spreaders (18-40 yo)?

It certainly shouldn't be.

Thanks! I hope this wonderful new transition team leverages interim indicators of who is getting the vaccine as compared to singular focus on how many people received it. It is possible to vaccinate 100 million and not have huge bump on morbidity and mortality in short term.

Intersting I think you helped make it controversial... see below anecdote when I made the same point three weeks ago...(note my point had everything to do with equity in access and nothing to do with the undeserving)pic.twitter.com/O8mIbVmsKZ

Ya no kidding. If all of the vaccines were given to those with risk factors plus those 55 and up, then I don’t care as much as some as achieving herd immunity in terms of getting closer to normalcy

A hypothetical: If the virus is able to quickly mutate into more communicable and severe forms that might not be vulnerable to current vaccines, would that not suggest targeting populations most likely to spread it, to eradicate it before it can metastasize?

Thank you...As someone younger than 65 with a rare lung condition that puts me at ~19% mortality risk (acc to published research), I’m two more phases down in my state’s priority list. I just don’t get it.
