We weren't blindslided, the way we weren't blindslided with the pandemic. This will keep happening if there is little accountability from the people who *eventually* shift and we see as part of "our" tribe—and never question how they misled us. Trump's failings are easier to see.

Nobody is infallible, but with both, pandemic and politics, I tend to ignore people who wake up pretty late to reality but then play catch-up as broken doomsday clocks. People who fail to warn ahead of time in a timely manner often fail to recognize the next transition, too.

Pandemic doomsaying has become a professional niche, sometimes occupied by same people who occupied the "stop being irrationally worried about a pandemic" niche a year ago. Similar transitions with the Trump before/after. It sucks for the public. Alas.
