Here's something I never understood. If a Republican gerrymander makes lots of 55% Republican districts and a few 80% Democratic ones, wouldn't it yield more moderate Republicans?

Ironically, institutional parties and candidates want gerrymandering to make it easy for them, but Trumpism shows that "safe" seats are not good for them, leave them captive to extremes on their one side

A lot bad faith arguments will be made that Obama is responsible for the situation post-2010 that gave the GOP such a monopoly on redistricting. But we can't overlook citizen's united. Roberts gave the GOP the power they needed, and at the perfect time, to cement minority rule.
