There's an irony that WhatsApp's new privacy policy is driving a mass exodus to, among other apps, the unencrypted-by-default Telegram. Yes, encryption ≠ privacy, but still.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1349347955975794689 …

It's incredible that one *still* sees so many people refer to Telegram as "encrypted messenger". Wanting privacy from Facebook is fine but it's something completely different than end-to-end encryption and I can't believe we're still having to explain this basic fact!

I believe it is more about the information newly available to app users about what data is collected.pic.twitter.com/3666QtWG0N

That chart is bullshit. WTF? Also omits the fact that Telegram can read your messages, and WhatsApp cannot. (I am no fan of Facebook and its privacy approaches). What on earth is that nonsense chart? Telegram hired a PR company or something to generate that???

That is data provided by Apple’s App Store. I haven’t looked at the provenance of that particular chart but there are plenty out there this past week as Apple only just started providing more information on what data the apps collect from users.

Where did you get the chart? It doesn't look right. Also where is the Android version?

It is Apple's App Store not GooglePlay which introduced a new transparency tool which provides app downloaders with information about the data collected on them from apps they are using:https://www.gadgetsnow.com/tech-news/the-amount-of-data-collected-by-whatsapp-signal-facebook-messenger-and-imessage/articleshow/80128023.cms?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=GadgetsNowAMP …

That's self-reported information, not stuff verified by Apple or anyone else, and also does not apply to Android. Plus, as I said the chart omits key information. The reality is if you want privacy *from* Facebook, yes, use something else (Signal!) but Telegram is not encrypted.
