Telegram keeps being referred to as an "encrypted messenger" when it is anything but, so that's why I objected. I'm guessing you mean non-public? That's a totally different concept. That said, Facebook groups are already non-public. Shift away from Twitter is something else.

There’s also lots of other factors that make Telegram attractive, such as its efforts to keep the app accessible despite censorship/blocking attempts (e.g., in Russia and Belarus). But that’s separate from encryption.

I’d also say users in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus have very different perceptions of Telegram and its value, coloured by the local contexts.

What are your thoughts about businesses/enterprises/institutions using the marketing language “military-grade” “bank-grade” encryption? Is it misleading to consumers? Does this language denote encryption both in transit and at rest?
