This overly bureaucratic prioritization, and the outrage over a few undeserving people cutting ahead (which I don't support but the harm is much less than all this) will likely do more damage to those in high-risk categories than the actual cutting in line. Roll it the @#!! out.https://twitter.com/polly/status/1348464494108954626 …

Rough tracking: we vaccinated around 200,000 people yesterday. We have more than that many *confirmed cases* each day—and that's an under count. Probably ~one million new infections per day. We reportedly have ~40 million vaccines sitting around in freezers! This is a travesty.

Right now, all the "X vaccinated the wrong people" outrage is directly contributing to terrible outcomes. The misguided outrage—outdoors, people with masks under their noses, beaches, etc.—has been the bane of our response this pandemic. Focus on action.https://twitter.com/JenniferNuzzo/status/1348618280764907525 …

How many times now have leaders and experts compromised the accuracy of information and the effectiveness of policy based on a wrongheaded belief that the public will “get the wrong idea”? It’s tragic.

You hit it on the head. Just give us the info and we can make the decision, undoubtedly the media will propagate enough fear to significantly impact behavior as well.

Maybe you could write a New York Times op-ed on this, to really get the message out? This is really so extraordinarily damaging. It’s got to stop.

so true. same issue in other domains which involve state help. assumption nr0 is people will cheat and the aim is to minimise cheating rather than maximize effectiveness/social welfare which involves accepting a ratio of cheating.

Is there any way that if we were throwing unlimited funding and manpower at this, it’d be going much much better?https://twitter.com/JodyShenn/status/1347957697006735362 …

Contrast KY: Website did not screen properly. 6000 signed up, many who were not in the proper group. “If you are scheduled for a vaccine, we want you to come and get it. We don’t want you to call and cancel,” https://www.kentucky.com/news/coronavirus/article248405890.html#storylink=cpy …https://www.kentucky.com/news/coronavirus/article248405890.html …

I worked in the public utility industry for 35 years & sorry to say this is typical. I think the most frustrating is that so many people work so hard to tell you you CAN’T do something instead of finding a way to say YES. Exasperating and deadly when vaccinating.

How many times have we heard this? "School districts didn't know what to do!" Maybe that 2 second google search would have helped?
