UK covid levels were roughly equivalent to Australia in August. When Aus cases jumped to 18 per million they declared a local state of disaster and started a crackdown- the same day the UK began offering people cash vouchers they could only spend in restaurants and pubs pic.twitter.com/5ZctHYf5w4

A lot of the success in Australia is because state governments ignored the federal government in regards to lockdowns and strict border policies.

You wouldn’t believe the number of times people in the UK have said to me ‘but thats an island it doesn’t count’ in discussions.

Only islands from the "applied public health measures intelligently, aggressively, robustly and as early as possible before getting overwhelmed by exponential growth" region of France are islands, Aris! Otherwise it's not an island.

Seasonality. Australia was at the tail end of their winter, the UK, the tail end of summer. I’m not defending the UK approach or denigrating what Oz has done but their is a seasonal component to this virus that can’t be discounted.

Pretty bad all over Europe and they didn’t run a voucher system? Have a look a respiratory illness frequency in a Northern Europe climate in the winter versus and Australian summer.

Cheap. There’s a difference between thinly populated countries at the arse end of the world and those which are globally connected and densely populated. London is a global city that has few peers.
