A lot of the success in Australia is because state governments ignored the federal government in regards to lockdowns and strict border policies.

Seasonality. Australia was at the tail end of their winter, the UK, the tail end of summer. I’m not defending the UK approach or denigrating what Oz has done but their is a seasonal component to this virus that can’t be discounted.

Cheap. There’s a difference between thinly populated countries at the arse end of the world and those which are globally connected and densely populated. London is a global city that has few peers.
