Lol "who funded these people" from an article on an otherwise normal site. This is the left version of "Soros funds BLM protests"—an inability to see what's in front of one's nose and a deep desire to find some financier and extraordinary-but-secret competence when there is none.pic.twitter.com/3R1lq37PGi

Of course. Not comparing that aspect. The idea that the rally and the storming proved some extensive financing, "all-expense paid" trip to DC, special training etc. No, no, no. Organizing a rally needs small amount of funds. It's routinely done.https://twitter.com/MaggieEThornton/status/1347969207531675660 …

Soros funds BLM is an anti-semitic, racist slur. Wondering if the PAC that was put together specifically for this event had some hand in funding things seems like a very sincere question to ask.

If this were actually an event with the kind of extensive pre-planning and training asserted by the "who funds these people" article above, we'd be in a very, very different moment right now. Rally happened and the mob which had some self-organized elements stormed the Capitol.

The reason I raise all this: The tragedy of the―utterly false—belief below is that I WISH IT WERE TRUE. If this were an astroturf event rather than years of propaganda and politics convincing many, we'd much less to worry about. There is significant evidence that this was a case of Astro-turfing. Ginni Thomas’ organization funded buses. Are journalists supposed to ignore that because “it’s a conspiracy theory.”

There are millions of people who, after being told for months that the election is stolen, and a portion of the Republican party implicitly or explicitly supporting this lie, now believe it. Zeynep, they had a big rally with a stage setup prior. That costs money. So does coordinating all the buses.

That only shows funding for the rally. There’s nothing that implies that funding aided a centralized effort to breach the Capitol Building. Once inside, most just sort of walked around and yelled a bunch. Only a handful of people seemed prepared for anything actually dangerous.

The investigation into what happened at the Capitol will need to include deep financial forensics to determine the extent to which it was an Astroturf Rebellion https://abcnews.go.com/US/trump-allies-helped-plan-promote-rally-led-capitol/story?id=75119209&cid=clicksource_4380645_6_heads_hero_live_headlines_hed …

I disagree. Having organized rallies of this size in DC, the rally before the assault on the Capitol would have cost in excess of $1M. It could have been funded by wealthy donors, or by many small dollar donors, but either option indicates dangerous infrastructure and support.

He's the president! Someone may have funded the rally, that doesn't make the participants paid and trained for the insurrection.
