One year ago. There was, of course, significant evidence. (Healthcare workers in Wuhan who had never been to the market were falling sick). It was covered up. Taiwan didn’t believe it and responded quickly with masks, gathering & travel restrictions. They have concerts there now.https://twitter.com/chicoharlan/status/1344655021883985920 …

One year ago today, the WHO was informed of a "pneumonia of unknown cause" in Wuhan, China. "No evidence of significant human-to-human transmission." "WHO does not recommend any specific measures for travelers." https://bit.ly/2LartAc

When facing exponential threats, anything done early is worth so so much more. The world lost January to the cover-up. (Don’t @ me with our own failings. I’ve been writing about them for a year. It doesn’t erase the damage from the initial cover-up. Let’s have multiple thoughts.)

That’s what you get an organization loses sight of its main mission and become concerned with travel money grab and fund raising more than anything else.

Yet, it was all over journals & science sites. I read it then & prepared my home early Feb with masks & gloves. No excuses. Example: https://medical.mit.edu/COVID-19/jan2020-updates …

The WHO is pretty neutered. I suspect they had to cowtow to the Chinese in the hopes of getting genetic and other evidence to try and slow the spread but ultimately that plan was a ~not great.

When the weibo vids of people going down in the streets and laying on the floor in hospitals came out it was already too late.

Do you really think China covered up so effectively that the CDC and the us government didn't know what was going on? Please.

Virologists and epidemiologists in the US knew about it in New Years. Ask the coronavirus research community.
