One problem is the people telling us to just “follow the science” rarely seem to understand the interaction between things science can and has resolved and the unknowns and trade-offs that cannot be resolved by appeals to “The Science.” They’re often using science as a talisman.https://twitter.com/jflier/status/1345417443909500931 …

Same here in the USA where some politically brainwashed people still think masks aren’t helping. CDC was behind much of the misinformation and I find that highly concerning since my primary medical providers seem to still trust them.

I believe you when you say you were accused of being anti-science--but your accusers were mistaken, afaik in my neighborhood mask-wearing began early (sometime in March) led by older Asian-Americans, I followed them--was I "anti-science"? I didn't think so

I can't recall when I saw pro-mask tweets (from u + others) but prob April, + I'm glad I decided to go ahead + wear masks Biden used "follow the science" as exoteric messaging: "I'm not crazy like 45"--the message worked fine for him electorally, I suppose--and it begs Qs too

Why not both? It’s been misused with your advice, but also used against Republican idiocy.
