This thread ends with "be smarter" but every stage is societal, not individual and the rapid test is the *best* part, not the problem. The family goes to work unmasked, has large "bubble", employs older nanny with no primary care doctor & own kids. Problem isn't the living room.https://twitter.com/darakass/status/1343754550562459648 …

Don't provide widespread testing; don't support people so they can stop working at the mercy of irresponsible employers; no primary care network; allow unmasked workplaces; don't provide advice on safely meeting & expect people to never see their kids... Of course it won't work.

Yes the son and the rapid test are not at all central to what's going on. If anything, that seems to be the only stage there was any sensible attempt at employing a public health measure. (Though older brother not alerting them to symptoms immediately...)https://twitter.com/a_haema/status/1344675936445362178 …

That's exactly right. Plus, that family has no "bubble" whatsoever. The word appears to have lost its meaning. Family employs nanny, plus mom has six co-workers who work together unmasked plus who knows what else... A real bubble is very hard to sustain. https://twitter.com/Valentine721/status/1344674128649998336 …

The original socially distance from family advice was awful... not sustainable and not good for public health. Better advice would be to meet outside or in very well ventilated area.
-
It wasn’t meant to be sustainable, it was meant for everyone to actually do it and it wouldn’t have lasted as long if they had. The government didn’t do its part in helping make that work.

What about those who are throwing all caution to the wind and attending NY parties, shopping in the malls, etc? I agree with what you said in the thread, but let's not pretend that individual actions or responsibilities do not matter at all during this pandemic.

I have been very, very confused by the use of the term "bubble" to mean "open network". Like, "oh, they're in my bubble", even when "they" have many others more in their own "bubble" - do people understand what the bubble metaphor is supposed to mean?

I define "bubble" as under 10 people who see only each other. They can live under different roofs. If talking to a contact tracer, others in the bubble are the only contacts they'd have. Any contact (dentist, stylist) is approved by all or we stay apart for 14 days. All WFH.

rules and routines are useful but these definitions are ultimately arbitrary. We are nodes in a network with necessary edges that expose us and others in multiplicative ways. We can only reduce, not eliminate risk but the greatest leverage is in the synergy of cooperation.
