Are we going to have a year of this nonsense? (Sent apparently to 22+ million people, thanks @reuters). Nobody is claiming strong protection in just a few days post-vaccination, plus even 95% efficacy means occasional positives. Will they all become pointless, global headlines?pic.twitter.com/PZtV6eLEbl

Also it doesn't even seem like that nurse had a severe case. What are people thinking? NYT had a *push alert* for a single allergic reaction (again no adverse outcome). Yes, allergies are important but they happen all the time in the world & nurses are ready. Denominator matters.

Also one problem with this baseless fear-mongering is that it makes it hard to point to things one *should* actually worry about, that are worth our alarm and attention. It's like everyone is crying wolf all the time at eleven, and then there are real wolves...

That’s what I was gonna ask. How did she do? The partial immunity likely helped. Just like most other vaccines.

I used to think it was ideological—wildly inflating covid’s risks to young people for political reasons. But now, I think, it’s just clickbait. Old fashioned yellow journalism. Scary news gets clicks. The fact it’s incredibly dangerous just isn’t important to them.

I believe she had only received the first dose, which would mean something just over 50% efficacy.

It’ll get worse. Eventually we’re going to vaccinate everybody. And just about everything happens to someone almost every day. Get ready for the “vaccine led to two fatal car accidents within hours of each other” stories.

Sensationalism, click bait, and fear. Why would they want to use the denominator, that's not as engaging.
