Exactly. He isn't in a position to change policy (thankfully), but the effect of this story will be reduced compliance with the existing policy. This is not what anybody needs.

This idea has been getting publicity in the US over the past few days (see
@zeynep who has generally been providing very informed journalism and has caveated that it is subject to further studies)1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

The point I'll keep making is that this is not something that comes only from Blair etc. See below for example. I think we should find the fastest way to trial this for multiple reasons.https://twitter.com/findingpneumo/status/1339556859473227778 …

Replying to @zeynep @RichardCory8 and
Multiple politicians have been advocating for this (usually recklessly), as well as some senior scholars (carefully, see below!). Best path imo in such situations is to *own* the idea—otherwise, the reckless crowd does—but correctly: with a trial/testing.https://www.medpagetoday.com/infectiousdisease/covid19/90358 …

Exactly. If this is a bad idea, getting ahead of it with data asap is important. Plus, they’ll be lots of people who will miss second dose anyway and it’s important to understand how much resources we should allocate to finding them. (I think especially important for elderly).

And if the trial supports the possibility of perhaps delaying the booster, maybe for younger populations? That’s a win, too. Either way, I am a big advocate off pushing for many trials, the sooner we start, the better. It’s worth every penny—given the stakes.

Completely agree. In my magic wand world, we would’ve started as soon as we got the preliminary data in early November. The sooner the better.
